Goal 1

FLOOD MITIGATION SOLUTIONS

The City of Punta Gorda is taking proactive steps to address flooding through the implementation of a comprehensive flood study. While this study will not provide a complete solution for major storms like Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton, it will equip us with crucial insights to effectively manage issues related to king tides and heavy rainfall. By securing federal funding and grants, we can enhance infrastructure and better protect our community from future flooding challenges.

Goal 2

HISTORIC PARK PRESERVATION

Punta Gorda is a treasure that deserves our unwavering commitment to preserving beauty and uniqueness. Together with the Historic Preservation Advisory Board (HPAB), I aim to ensure that the public parks, entrusted to us by the Trabue Family, are safeguarded for future generations.  The goal is to initiate the process of placing these historic parks on the National Register of Historic Places, protecting them from further decline caused by development. These parks are a legacy for our citizens, as envisioned by our city's founders, and it is our duty to cherish and uphold this heritage.

Goal 3

CONTINUED SOUND FINANCIAL DECISIONS

Upcoming tax reform in Florida presents serious challenges for smaller municipalities like Punta Gorda. It is essential, now more than ever, to elect proven, fiscally responsible leaders willing to make difficult choices, even if these decisions are unpopular. We need to prioritize the financial well-being of our city to secure a sustainable future for all residents. By working together, we can overcome these obstacles and protect our city's prosperity. Remember, I work for YOU!

Goal 4

UPDATING LAND DEVELOPMENT REGULATIONS FOR COMPATIBILITY

Updating the Land Development Regulations (LDRs) to promote compatibility throughout the city is an important step as we update and improve aging infrastructure. These regulatory updates may also necessitate amendments to the Comprehensive Plan to ensure consistency between the city's long-term vision, planning policies, and development standards. Maintaining alignment between the Comprehensive Plan and the Land Development Regulations is essential to supporting coordinated growth, redevelopment, and infrastructure investment.

Goal 5

MAXIMIZING ALL POTENTIAL INCOME and/or REVENUE SOURCES

A. Laishley Marina - This city asset was badly damaged during Hurricanes Helene and Milton.  It is imperative that we get the piers operating as well as or better than they were prior to the storms. Although a long and arduous procedure, this project is currently in the procurement process.

B. Herald Court- This property is currently receiving work to mitigate water intrusion.  In the past year, we paid for tenant repairs after flooding.  The city council has ensured that the property is protected during hurricanes with the recent purchase of tiger dams.  We are working towards 100% occupancy with tenants paying market rent.

C. Fisherman's Village Reverter Parcels- The City of Punta Gorda has begun the process of seeking to enforce the provisions of the reverter clause.  These parcels, which comprise a total of 2.7 acres, have been valued at $3.6 million and could have the potential to bring the city an annual income of just over $200,000.  I look forward to advancing this process.
